St. John's Lutheran Church was organized as a member of the Illinois Synod in May 22nd 1848.
First School built in 1872.
2nd Church building erected 1872. At this time English was first used at St Johns.
In 1880 St. John's joined the Missouri Synod.
The Parsonage on 117 East 6th was built 1884.
The present Church building was built and dedicated in 1914.
St. John's suffered serious flooding in 1922, 1926, and 1927 but remained standing.
In 1942 St. John's discontinued all German Services.
The new School Building was built April 17th 1955.
Mission Congregation also named St Johns was planted Sept 10 1956 in Rushville.
In 1958 WRMS began broadcasting the Services.
In 1983 St John's added a Gym in the School Building.
In 2005 St John's Lutheran School closed.
St. John's began a Latino Outreach in 2013.
From 2014-2020 St Johns was blessed with the help of 6 Vicars.
In 2023 we celebrated 175 years as a congregation
